At Yowdoo, we appreciate that not everyone has a mind full of creative ideas and that it is not always possible to establish exactly what your website preferences might be.
That's why we have put together a few pointers to give you some food for thought and to perhaps assist for when you talk to us about your website.
Look at your competitors
An excellent starting point is to take a look at what your competitors have done with their websites - do they all follow a particular design style? Do they all use a similar colour pallette?
In some industries there is what could be described as 'a typical style' of design - for example a solicitor or accountant is liklely to have a very professional style with a limited font range and a clean uncluttered layout. Most likely there will only be a small range of colours used and these will generally be understated.
How can you break the rules?
Having assessed your direct competition you may want to follow their lead and opt for a similar style of website - or you many want to break the mould and go in a completely different direction.
It can be a good idea to take a look at websites in other industries to see the differences in the styles used. Some you will love and no doubt some you will loathe. At Yowdoo we ask you to make a note of your loves and loathes - it's amazing how quickly we can build up a picture of your preferences and also why you might prefer one design over another.
Take stock!
Sometimes a great photograph makes for a great website - however getting hold of that great photograph is not always so easy.
That's where stock images can be handy. Many websites exist that provide professional stock photographs and they can be purchased fairly cheaply and used freely in the design of your website. Often a stock image can be used as a starting point for a stunning header. It might not necessarily feature in your design in it's original form, but instead may be the inspiration that produces that fantastic idea for your website.
